Maldives Travel Conference 2025
Women's Edition in Addu
The Conference was held at Equator Village, Addu City, on 25 January 2025.
About the Conference
MATATO’s annual travel conference in 2024 was dedicated exclusively to women in the tourism industry, with the aim to spotlight the crucial issues affecting women in tourism, particularly those in leadership roles. The conference proved to be a pivotal platform for addressing the pressing challenges faced by women in the tourism sector. This series of women’s edition is a movement that initiated with the Conference in 2024, towards equality and empowerment
We are continuing this movement and taking it to other regions in Maldives. This conference is the Women’s Edition in Addu. The Addu conference seeks to raise awareness about the obstacles women face in the tourism sector, mainly in Addu region, and to explore strategies for creating a supportive and equitable environment. By promoting open dialogue and sharing insights, the event aims to pave the way for greater opportunities and retention for women in tourism. The discussions will focus on identifying practical solutions that can be implemented to foster a more inclusive industry, where women can thrive and achieve their full potential. It is an opportunity for women in tourism to connect, network, and support each other. By fostering a sense of community and solidarity, the movement aims to inspire and empower women to overcome challenges and achieve success in their careers. It aligns with our ongoing commitment to championing women's empowerment and youth development in the tourism industry.

About the Panellists
Ms. Noora Jaleel
NooraJaleel is the head of the Planning and Compliance Section and acting head of the Media and Bureau Section. She started as the Director of Hithadhoo Town office in 2019 and served as Acting Secretariat General in late 2024. With over 18 years in the Maldivian government, she focuses on management and project development.
Recently,she has worked on tourism initiatives for Addu City, including organizing the Addu Tourism Summit and launching a new tourism brand identity to promote the region. Noora holds an MBA from Villa College and a Bachelor’s degree from Singapore, having previously managed operations at the State Electric Company and worked at the Ministry of Fisheries.
Ms. Almas Hassan
AlmasHassan, a highly accomplished professional in the luxury hospitality industry, currently serves as the Admin Manager at Velaa Private Island. With a strong foundation built through years of experience at esteemed resorts like Four Seasons and Conrad Maldives, Almas has demonstrated exceptional adaptability and a continuous pursuit of professional development.
Her academic credentials, including an MBA and specialized training, further enhance her expertise in the dynamic island tourism sector. Almas' career exemplifies resilience and
dedication, particularly noteworthy in a male-dominated field and the challenges of balancing a demanding career with personal life.Ms. Aminath Shifana
Shifana is currently a Project Manager and Civil Engineer engaged in freelance consultancy work. She has expertise in resort construction, renovation projects, and sustainable climate-resilient island development. Among her notable achievements is the reassembly of the 300-year-old Kalhuvakaru Mosque, a site of significant national heritage.
Shifana holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering and brings to us today, her experience of working in a male dominant industry and the experience of working on site during her projects.
She as also a panelist in our Male’ panel talking about her experience in working in resorts.
Ms. Fathimath Hafsa
FathimathHafsa is an experienced educational leader with a strong academic background.
She holds a Master of Education from the National Institute of Education (Sri Lanka) and a Bachelor of Educational Leadership and Management from the National Institute of Education (Maldives). Her career spans over three decades, progressing from Preschool Teacher to Principal in various schools across the Maldives. She has extensive experience in school management, curriculum development, and teacher supervision. Notably, she has presented research at international conferences and been recognized for her contributions
to education. She actively advocates forthe inclusion of travel and tourism-related curriculum and career guidance in educational programs to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in this vital sector of the Maldivian economy.Event Partners and Sponsors
